Jan was born in Seattle to E. Marguerite and Carter Harrison Lucas on March 29, 1936 where he grew up with his two younger brothers Mark and Tory. He attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle and graduated in 1955; soon after he served in the Naval Reserves for two years. Jan married the girl next door, Beatrice Riley, on June 13, 1957. Together they had five children Jeff, Tim, Vicky and Wendy (twins), and Scott. Jan and Bea cherished their marriage for 56 years as they built their family together in the North Bothell area.Jan joined the Operating Engineers (Local 302) in 1959. While he worked in construction for most of his life, he also worked in other industries. Off and on in the 60s, he worked as a logger in the Northwest and later followed an opportunity to work on the Alaskan Pipeline in the 70s. Jan also pursued entrepreneurial-interests in managing his own construction business, as well as a commercial fishing vessel, Riba, where he trolled the waters of La Push, WA and Eureka, CA. The early 80s brought the opportunity to shape Seattles skyline when he worked on construction projects for the Rainier Building and One Union Square.Jan earned the rank of a 32-degree Mason and became a Shriner in 1971. He joined the Legion of Honor Club and served in the drill team, marching in parades with his fellow Shriners, raising awareness for Shriners Hospitals. Jan earned the designation o f President of the Lake Ballinger Shrine Club 1986 and later, Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1988. He was very active and had many friends.Jan is survived by his wife Beatrice Lucas, five children, ten grandchildren, and his brother Mark Harrison Lucas.In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations go to: href=http://specialolympicswashington.org/ Special Olympics of Washington, href=http://www.alsa.org/ Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrigs Disease), href=http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/ ShrinersHospitalforChildren.
