Online Obituaries for Versailles KY VERSAILLES- Elmer Appling, 93, husband of Norma Jean Appling, died Monday, November 28, 2016. He was born in Dinuba, California on March 23, 1923 to the late Fred and Myrtle Patterson Appling. Mr. Appling was a Design Engineer for Rocketdyne, a member of Versailles Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force, having served in World War II. He was also the lead engineer in designing the Thrust Chamber for the Appollo Moon Rocket and loved to build and fly remote controlled airplanes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Paula (Jim) Roberts, MO, Marla Appling (Joe) Lynch and Rhonda Appling Vanwinkle, both of Versailles; his grandchildren, Jim Roberts, Shannon Roberts Kimsey, Terry Roberts, Aaron Robinett, Caleb Vanwinkle, Michael Appling, Jeana Robinson, Tyler Appling and Ariel Appling; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Doug Appling. Funeral Information Funeral Service will be 10am Friday, December 2, 2016 at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill with Rev. John Brandon officiating. Burial will follow in Fortune Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at the funeral home.
