Robert Stanley Scott
May 26th, 1924 - October 26th, 2014
Bob passed away the morning of October 26, with his wife Barbara and eldest son John at his side, after a long fight with cancer. He had been surrounded by his family during his brief stay in the hospital.Bob was born in Granite Falls, WA, the son of Clara and John Henry Scott. He was the youngest of five children. He attended Granite Falls high school, where he was a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. After his graduation in 1942,Bob enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He joined the US Naval Reserve after the war. Upon his return he attended the University of Washington, earning a Bachelors degree in Forestry Products in 1952. He met his wife, Barbara at the UW and they married on September 29, 1951.Bob had a long and sussful career in the forest product industry, working in sales at Borden Chemical for 19 years and as a corporate executive at Georgia Pacific for 21 years. He met countless people through his work, many of whom became close friends.Bob was an avid skier and fisherman. He was a member of the Pacific Norwest Ski Instructors Association, where he served on the board, and was a certified examiner for many years. He also ski raced in the Masters league well into his 70s. Bob enjoyed fishing in Puget Sound and in the ocean waters off the coasts of Washington and Canada. Bob was a devoted Husky fan, and he and his wife, Barbara were long time season ticket holders, attending home and away games, an Orange Bowl and many Rose Bowls. He would tell everyone he bled purple.Bob was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, and a long time supporter of the Shriners Hospital. He had a deep interest in local and national politics, and was an informed and opinionated voter. He enjoyed maintaining his home and yard, which was always kept immaculately.As well as being a devoted husband and father, Bob had many friends throughout his life. He was truly a people person. He will be deeply missed by the many whose lives he touched.Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, his children Laurie (Tom) Napa, John (Judy), Robert (Jennifer), Paul (Sharon) and Tom; grandchildren Lindsay (Kelly) Klempel, Kristi (Josh) McCann, Jeffrey, Wyatt, Aaron, Janessa, Charlie and John Henry; great grandsons Brayden and Gibson; several nieces and nephews and scores of very dear friends.Bobs family would like to thank the Sarcoma team at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for the excellent and loving care he received during this past year, and all the wonde people at Swedish Edmonds Hospital, who cared for him during his last days.Services will be held on November 7, at 11:00 am at Edmonds United Methodist Church.
