Richard John Luebbe
October 27th, 1933 - February 11th, 2015
Dick Richard Luebbe was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the first child of Roy and Pearl Luebbe, on October 27, 1933. He grew up in Omaha. He had a natural curiosity about how things worked, and showed an early interest in electricity, once installing a telegraph line between his and a friends house, a block away. Dick attended Omaha Technical High School, where he studied to be an electrician. While he was in school, he worked for General Electric repairing small appliances. He then attended University of Nebraska, where he studied to be an electrical engineer. In 1956, Dick entered the Army, and was assigned to New York City where he worked in the armys film archive department, and helped make promotional films. While in the Army, he met the love of his life, Arlene Wilkerson, of Coleridge, Nebraska. She was attending nursing school. They were married in 1957 and spent their first years together living in New York City. After leaving the service, Dick and Arlene moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Dick worked as an engineer for Honeywell. They bought their first house and began a family; Laura was born in 1959, and Ross in 1961. Dicks work took the family to many places, including Haddonfield New Jersey, Janesville, Wisconsin, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and San Jose, California, where he became a grandfather. In 1990, he and Arlene moved once more to Mill Creek, Washington, and later built a house just east of town, in Snohomish County. Dick loved spending time with his family and his dogs. He had a wry sense of humor, an intelligent wit and a critical eye. He loved to work in his shop, crafting things from metal and solving problems. He enjoyed travel, music, and he loved to play golf. Dick is survived by his wife, Arlene Luebbe; his sister, Beverly Ryan of Omaha, his daughter Laura Graham (Paul) of Everett, WA, his son Ross Luebbe (Sharon) of Morgan Hill, CA; grandchildren Allison Frazier (Josh), Kevin Graham, Michelle Greer (Sean) and Brandon Pallott (Tammi), and four great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Dick loved music and especially enjoyed the music program at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, where he worked with the choir when they travelled. Services will be held at Bellevue Presbyterian Church at 2:00PM on Sunday, March 1st.
