Lois J. Nita Gienger
August 27th, 1923 - April 17th, 2017
Lois Juanita Nita Gienger was born on August 27th, 1923, in Pueblo Colorado. She was known to family and friends as Nita and was Gram to many. She passed away peacefully with family by her side, on April 17th, 2017. She was survived by brother Dale (Jackie) Rick her, daughter, Sharon (Ed) Axton, grand daughters, Khirstie (Joe) Engberg and Kashia (Jeff) Loth, Vicki (Kim) Nimmo, Missy (Ken) Wrynn, great grandchildren, Axia Jaeger Engberg, Tara and Kevin Loth, Adam (Lisa) Nimmo, Hollie Nimmo, Ian and Evan Throckmorton and many nieces and nephews and her dearest friends, Jan OLeary and Peg Schmidt. Nita was the oldest of 5 siblings, and was tough as nails. They moved from Pueblo Colorado to Ferndale, WA in 1931. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1941 and married Ernst Fredrick Gienger of Alberta, Canada on October 3rd the same year. She worked at Wallace Poultry, and as meat wrapper in the grocery industry. She modeled for Millers and Chaffees Department Stores in Everett, and also worked for TransAmerica Title, Gulf Oil and Tri-County Office supply. On a sunny day you would find her working in the flower beds, or enjoying a Bombay gin and tonic on the deck. Rainy days she reserved for baking. She made the best apple pies, banana bread and of course, Grandma Nitas famous chocolate chip cookies! She always had a batch stored in the freezer just in case company stopped by. She enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners and especially loved Seahawk Sundays! She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, William and Lois Rick; brothers, Willis, Marvin and Francis Rick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either MADD of Whatcom County or Seattle Childrens Hospital, in honor of Lois Nita Gienger. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift; thats why they call it the present.
