Jerry Kernan Ryder
November 23rd, 1940 - September 25th, 2016
Jerry Jake Kernan Ryder, 75, of Shoreline, WA, passed away on September 25th at his home after a short battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). Born to Vera Mae Ryder and Frank Kernan Ryder in Sisseton, South Dakota on November 23rd, 1940. When he was very young, his family moved to Seattle, and he graduated in 1959 from Lincoln High School. Jerry loved his family very dearly. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy (a cute little farm girl from Lake Stevens), sons Jeff (Lauri) and Mark (Susan), four grandchildren: Stephanie, Emily, McKenna, and Carson (and no great-grandchildren, yet). Also, his siblings Wayne of Seattle, Craig of San Diego, Bev of Rice, MN, and Gail of Bothell. Preceded in death by his mother Vera, father Frank, brothers Dave and Stan, and dogs Jewels and Sam. As a senior in high school, Jerry began his career in meat cutting at Albertsons where he worked for 15 years. He then went into sales for Ness, Acme Poultry, and later Draper Valley where he retired at age 64 in 2004. Jerry had a strong love of both travel and sports. One of his favorite annual trips was Mariners Spring Training in Arizona, even though he felt the team continued to disappoint. He and his wife also attended every grandkids sporting event, even though the grandkids teams also continued to disappoint (IM JUST KIDDING!). Jerry had a favorite quote: Zip it, Judy! and some words to live by: The secret to staying young is to DRINK LOTS OF BOOZE. (Not really!) Be yourself. Treat people with respect and you will get respect back. At Jerrys request, there will be no service, however, his family is planning a celebration of life to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
