Robert M. Shay

Robert M. Bob Shay passed away peacefully on Dec. 29, 2016 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Nellie May; six children: Pat, Mary, Mike, Rob, Kerri, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister Jean and granddaughter Molly. Bob was born in Watsonville CA on Aug. 3, 1929 to Jake and Edna Shay. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and met and married the love of his life Nellie May Haag. After his discharge in 1954 they moved to Seattle, and Bob founded AAA Fire Extinguisher Co. out of a motel room in North Seattle. The company grew to be the largest Fire Safety Co. in the Northwest with over 35 employees before he sold it in 1985.Bobs hobby was bowling. He was the Air Force champ and continued bowling in Seattle leagues for decades. He had a trophy room at home with several hundred Large trophys on display.We will always remember Bob for his jokes, generosity, and warm smile.A Funeral service will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 22209 53th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043 on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at 9:30 AM.Remembrances can be made to Alzheimers Assoc. in Bobs honor.
