Effel Mary Schulz
May 23rd, 1930 - October 6th, 2015
In her own words, E. Mary Schulz, lived a full and wonde life and passed away at the age of 85 on October 6. Mary suffered a debilitating stroke on January 8, 2015. She spent a month in the intensive rehab unit at Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill Campus and then continued to work hard at regaining her functional independence while living at Acacia Family Home in Edmonds, WA. Marys fierce determination and positive outlook allowed her to learn to walk again using a walker. She was very close to moving back in to her own home when she had another debilitating stroke on September 29. Once again she kept a positive outlook and regained her ability to move. She was sent back to the intensive rehab unit at Swedish Cherry Hill Campus. Sadly, she suffered a final devastating stroke on October 3rd. Mary never recovered from the final devastating stroke and entered into the arms of the Lord on October 6th. Mary is the youngest of five children. She had a wonde childhood spent growing up with her best cousin Ruth and best friend Ardith in Lake Forest Park. She was married for 54 years to her husband Ruben Schulz. She is the loving mother of three boys: Randy, Gary, and Craig. She is the proud loving grandmother of Diana, Christopher, Jacqueline, Matthew, and Erik. She was also the loving great grandmother to Vincent and Dawson. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was widowed eight years ago but she continued to remain active and independent. Mary began raising her boys in Bellevue, WA and then moved to Anchorage, AK when her husband Ruben received a promotion. Mary worked as a school nurse during their years in Anchorage. They returned to the Pacific Northwest and settled in Edmonds, WA during their retirement years. Mary enjoyed skiing with her husband and boys during the years they lived in Anchorage, Alaska. Mary enjoyed gardening and creating beautiful flower arrangements. She was also a very talented seamstress. She made many intricate cross-stitch designs as well. Mary was very active in her Church and enjoyed many years of volunteering her time creating beautiful fruit salads on Wednesdays for Annies Kitchen. Mary will always be fondly remembered for her generosity, meticulous attention to detail, as well as her wonde sense of humor.
