Edward Walter Funsinn
August 12th, 1922 - March 14th, 2016
Edward W. Funsinn, beloved father, father-in-law, uncle and grandfather, passed away due to respiratory complications on Monday, March 14, 2016 in Shoreline. He was 93. He was known for his good-humor, his generosity and positive spirit which made him a favorite with all who knew and loved him. Born in Seattle on August 12, 1922 to Walther and Martha Funsinn, he was the oldest of three children. Ed was a proud ODea high school graduate (class of 1940) and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a Quartermaster on the USS Mobjack in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he earned an Accounting degree from the University of Washington, thanks to the GI Bill. He went on to work as Operations Manager for West Coast Distributors and the Odom Company for many years, retiring in 1990. He and his wife, Eileen (Wright) of Seattle, were married for 62 years until her death in June 2011. Ed was a long-time resident of Shoreline. True to his generous spirit, he helped raise funds to build St. Lukes elementary school in 1956. He loved ushering at Mass at St. Lukes and greeting the parishioners. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, his brother, William (Bill), and sister Mary. He is survived by his three children, Teresa Wicorek (Ted), David Funsinn (Donna Dye) and Monica Leers (Dan), and granddaughter Sarah Wicorek. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 18th at 11 am at St. Lukes parish in Shoreline to honor and celebrate Eds life. A reception will follow at the church and burial service at Holyrood Cemetery at 2:30pm.
