Irma “Jean” Miller (Waycaster) died peacefully at her home in Versailles, KY on Monday June 18th at the age of 73. Jean is survived by her husband, Ronald Miller, her sons, Phillip and Jon Miller, her sisters Amy Lou Mitchem of Crab Orchard WV, Tina Waycaster of Midway West Virginia, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jean was born on 5/28/1945 in Midway WV to Port & Edith Waycaster. Jean won the WV State Spelling Bee twice at the ages of 13 and 14 and went on to participate in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1963. She married “Ronnie”, her high school sweetheart in December that same year and children followed in 1965 and 1968. Jean’s career started in Washington, DC with the USDA where she served as a Clerk Typist. After her marriage, she transferred to Charleston, SC with the Navy Department, working in civilian personnel. During this time her husband Ron served in the Navy and began a career with Delta Airlines. Both of their children were born in Charleston, SC. In 1969, Jean and Ron moved to Nicholasville, KY when Ron transferred within Delta to the Lexington Airport. In 1970, they moved to Versailles KY where they raised their family. With the exception of 6 years away in Atlanta, after their kids were out on their own, they have lived here ever since. They have attended Versailles Baptist Church since arriving in Versailles in 1970. Jean worked at Woodford Memorial Hospital for several years and went on to work for the Federal Government in several different agencies. Jean retired from the Federal Government in 1994 and enjoyed being active in her grandchildren’s lives, Daniel, Emily, Laurel and Lindsay. A Graveside Service will be held 11a, Thurs, June 21, 2018 at Rose Crest Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Versailles Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Cabell will officiate the ceremony. Visitation will be from 6p-8p Wed, June 20, 2018 at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jean’s life.
