James "Jim" Rankin
February 4th, 1952 - September 19th, 2018
LEXINGTON- James “Jim” Rankin, 67, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018. He was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky to the late William Morgan and Lucille Jones Rankin on February 4, 1952. Jim was a music teacher for Fayette County Public Schools. He was also a Jazz Musician, where he traveled all over the country playing the music he so dearly loved. He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Rankin, Lexington; his siblings, Charlotte Rankin and Jessie Rankin, both of WI, Bill Rankin and Tim Rankin, both of Lexington, John Rankin, CA and Tony Rankin, Las Vegas; his best friend, Robin Rankin, Lexington, and his cat, Midnight Rankin. Jim will be missed by the entire jazz community. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church 1825 Russell Cave Road Lexington, Kentucky 40505. A tribute concert will be held at 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 4th at Bar Louie, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation www.kidney.org or the Jazz Arts Foundation www.jazzartsfoundation.org.
