Marilyn Vincent Toroni
April 25th, 1924 - February 16th, 2014
One of 13 siblings, of Charles H and Sarah (Duffy) Law. Attended Holy Rosary Elementary and High School when she was graduated in 1942. She attended Seattle University 1942 until 1945. In 1945 she enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in Virginia and was honorably discharged in 1947. She met Rudolf Toroni and was married in 1953, and came Ruth (Foisy), James, Thomas and Matthew. She was the wife and mother of the family home in Lake Forest Park, and helped Rudy with his television repair shop in Lake City. In 1968 she began working at the US Postal Service, as a distribution clerk, on the graveyard shift. Her duties were to sort mail manually, and eventually were promoted to day shift. She attended St. Mark Catholic Church when living in Lake Forest Park. She was fortunate to have great neighbors, Aunt Frances and Cousin Martin and the Delaney family. Marilyn enjoyed her siblings and we would often get together with their families for different occasions, whether it was Thanksgiving or a family reunion. She liked to travel and in 1968, she traveled to Europe with her father. She enjoyed traveling so our family took a trip to Sun Valley with her sister Pam and her family to snow ski. In 2000, she and her sister Kay went to Alaska. By 1974, she was a stenographer at the PAR department, which served employees who experienced alcohol and drug issues. She completed the necessary education at Seattle University and obtained the certification to become a counselor in the PAR program. In 1976, the opportunity arose at the PAR office in Spokane, where she lived for 10 years. Her sister-in-law Peggy located a small house in West Seattle with a view of the water, and Marilyn purchased it for her retirement home. She moved into the house after she retired in 1986. She was very happy to live within close proximity of her sister Kay and brother Charley. Once Marilyn retired, she had the time for fun activities. On Sundays, she enjoyed going to the horse races with two girlfriends. She went to New Zealand and drove her motor home to Alaska. In 1990, she joined the Loners on Wheels Motor Home Club for singles that included activities as dances, jamborees and campouts. She owned her own motor home as well as a pink motor scooter that was used for transportation to attend Mass and do her weekly laundry. She enjoyed her grandchildren and would often take them camping, and enjoyed challenging them in games of Scrabble, and Skipbo. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crafts. In 1998, son Tom and she took a trip to Ireland, for two weeks. There was no schedule, so they rented a car and took in the sights by themselves and had a great time. In 2000, she went to Alaska to see the Iditarod, with her sister Kay and visited her friend Dixie, a long time friend. Marilyn moved into Retsil Veterans Home in Port Orchard, in 2008. It was the perfect home for her as she loved the nurses, staff and community there. She had the best care and the family is very grateful to them. Marilyn loved her family and friends. May she rest in peace. Announcement: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark Catholic School.
