Ann Marie Matt lived a full life in her 61 years. She began life as the third child of Mary Jane (Green) and Charles Francis Bartush Sr. in Dallas, Texas. Born on February 4th, 1954. Growing up, Ann shared laughter and hijinks with her twelve siblings. She moved to Denver, Colorado to attend school at Regis College (now University). Ann studied Special Education as she had a passion for helping children learn, especially to read. It was at Regis that she met the love of her life, Stephen Lee Matt. Their shared enjoyment of nature brought them on many adventures. Camping and skiing were two of their shared pastimes. Ann graduated from Regis in 1976 and went on to teach. Steve proposed to Ann in the summer of 1977. They were married January 21st, 1978 in Muenster, Texas. They honeymooned in Taos, New Mexico, enjoying the ski slopes. Thus began their family. Over the next eight years, Ann and Steve had five children; Marianne, Michele, Margaret, Marilyn, and Stephen. Ann was a dedicated mother, ensuring her children were instilled with love, compassion, independence, and a joy of life-long learning. Ann began teaching at St. Pius the X Catholic grade school in 1991. She retired from teaching in October of 2015. Her school community at St. Pius meant a great deal to Ann. The teachers and staff guided her children’s education and offered her a professional community and dear friendships. Ann touched many lives throughout her life. She had a large group of friends whom she treasured. These women shared laughter and tears together, and helped her through her last months and weeks of life. Ann’s involvement in her and Steve’s home parish, St. Michael the Archangel, was great. Teaching religious education classes and First Communion classes offered Ann a way to teach and enrich the lives of many people. She was a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion, and was active with teens as a member of the Workcamp team for many years. Ann is survived by her husband, Steve, daughters Marianne (Declan), Michele, Margaret, Marilyn and her son Stephen. Ann is also survived by her siblings; Chuck Bartush Jr. (June), Bill Bartush (Darlene), Mary Beth Bartush, John Bartush (Lanie), Cindy Del Olmo, Joe Bartush (Barbara), Cathy Bartush-Otto (Mark Peniston), Paul Bartush (Beth), Angela Caballero, Rick Farwell (Virginia’s husband), Mike Bartush (Katrinka), Jim Bartush (Pam). Her mother and father, Mary Jane and Charles F. Bartush Sr., and her sister Virginia Farwell preceded Ann in death.
