Ross Joseph Wood
September 29th, 1931 - November 15th, 2012
Ross J Wood, 81, Woodway, WA Passed away peacefully November 15 th 2012. Ross was born September 29 th , 1931 in New York City to Anna (Callahan) and Benjamin Ross Wood. He graduated from Brooklyn Technological High School in 1949 and was accepted to Cornell University. College was interrupted by four years of service in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He then returned to Cornell and finished his degree in Chemical Engineering in 1954. He met and married the love of his life Jeannette Rose Picciano in 1955. Ross and Jeannette started their family on the East Coast before moving to the West Coast in 1959. He took a job with The Boeing Company. He received his Masters in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Washington in 1962. After moving to the west coast they accepted four more children to their family. Ross retired from Boeing after 35 years in 1994. Ross was very active in his community: Holy Rosary Edmonds, Stevens Hospital Foundation, Community Transit, and Mayor of Woodway. Ross is survived by his devoted wife, former Washington State Senator, Jeannette Wood and their six loving children; Ross Joseph JR (Kathy), Christopher (Shannon), Jonathan (Carolyn), Therese (Bruce), Bridget (David), and Megan (Jack ). He is also survived by his 15 beautiful grandchildren and his favorite sister Patricia. Memorial mass will be held at Holy Rosary church in Edmonds, Monday November 26 th , 2012 at 11 am. The Burial is at Restlawn Cemetery, Tuesday November 27, 2012 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers please send donation to Edmonds Community College The Wood Family Scholarship 425-640-1149. But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom ones deepest as well as ones most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.
