William Russell Griffin
November 7th, 1946 - September 9th, 2019
William Russell Griffin, 72, husband of Collene Gibson Griffin, passed away, Monday, September 9, 2019. He was born November 7, 1946 in Gallipolis, OH to the late John Thomas and Eve Moore Griffin. William was an United States Navy Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s Degree in creative writing, which lead him to becoming a career Journalist for WKYT and the Deputy Press Secretary for Governor Brereton Jones. William was a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and St. John’s Episcopal Church. In addition to his wife Collene, William is survived by a son, Kevin Michael (Angela) Griffin, GA; daughter, Allison Griffin-McLamb, NC; and step daughter, Christa Jones (Bobby) Carter, II, KY; brothers and sisters, Terrence Patrick Griffin, Joseph Urban Griffin, Christopher Moore Griffin, Anthony Thaddeus Griffin, Matthew Chester-Griffin, Patrick Michael Griffin, Maria Theresa Holdershaw, Brian David Griffin, Angela Regina Gilliam and Meghan Elizabeth Lawton; grandchildren, Rory Francis Fielding Griffin, Molly Lucinda McLamb, Jack Wilton McLamb, Sophia Audelle Carter, Christopher Chadwick Carter and Lincoln Elijah Carter. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brothers John Thomas Griffin III, Kevin Rory Griffin, and Barry Fitzgerald Griffin. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00p, Saturday, September 21, 2019 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles, KY, followed by a Reception. A Visitation will be from 2:00p until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Memorial Donations be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
