Captain James Douglas Prout Sr (Retired USCG), 81, husband of 55 years to Gerry Prout and father to their four children, entered into the presence of his Savior, Friday afternoon September 13, 2019. James was born August 2, 1938 in Dorchester, MA to the late William Ernest and Ethel May Matthews Prout. He was a graduate of the Boston Latin School and the United States Coast Guard Academy and enjoyed 31 years of active duty service to his country. While teaching at the Coast Guard Academy, he was actively involved in Christian ministry to cadets through the Officers Christian Fellowship (OCF), with lifelong friend and then Lieutenant John Bannan. The OCF and the relationships established through ministry were lifelong and meaningful to Jim and his entire family. In addition to his wife Gerry, James is survived by son, James (Jim) Prout Jr of Ohio and his five children; Hannah, Sarah, Trenton, Abby and Aedan, plus four great-grandchildren. Daughter, Rebekah and Son in Law Clay Struthers of Ohio. Son, Stephen and Daughter in Law Shelby of South Carolina and their children Kirsten and Lydia. Son, Daniel and Daughter in Law Leanne of Kentucky, and their children, Boston and Micah; and brother, Richard Prout and his wife Judi of Washington. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday September 21, 2019 at Journey Church 320 Hope Lane, Versailles; officiating the service is Rev. Randy Nation. Visitation is 5:00pm-7:00pm, Friday September 20, 2019 at the church. Burial will take place 9:00am, Monday September 23, 2019 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made to the Officers Christian Fellowship at 3784 South Inca Englewood, CO 80110 or online at www.ocfusa.org .
