Wayne passed away Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2010 at Anderson House in North City, surrounded by his family and close friends. He had a brief, but valiant battle with cancer. Wayne was born in 1933 in Nekomia, North Dakota to Henry and Wilma (Kline) McGregor. He was second of five children. The family moved to Seattle in 1942 and lived in the Cherry Hill area and then the Roosevelt District. Wayne attended Garfield, Roosevelt High School, and Edison Tech. As a teenager Wayne went to work for Pete Canlis on Aurora Avenue. Wayne joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953 and served until 1957. His tour included one year in Korea and one year in Japan. Upon his discharge he returned to Seattle where he began a decade of bartending, starting with his parents at the Rio Tavern on N. 45 th and then to various bars on Roosevelt Avenue. He married Barbara Bishop on August 20, 1960 in Lynnwood, WA. They were divorced in 1994. In 1966 Wayne went to work as a truck driver for Palmer Supply and in 1972 on to Rainier Brewery, retiring in 1998. He was a longtime member of Teamsters Local #174. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Rupp, West Covina, CA; and 8-year-old daughter Laurie. He is survived by his son Todd McGregor, Bemidji, MN; daughter, Kris McGregor, Mountlake Terrace; grandson John-Tomas McGregor, Seattle; son-in-law Jim Bailey; brothers Ray (Doris) McGregor, Lake Stevens and Dale (Syd) McGregor, Kenmore; sister Joyce (Byron) Elwell, Centralia; brother-in-law Al Rupp, W. Covina, CA; former wife Barbara McGregor, Bemidji, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Mannie and Connie DeAguero. Announcement: In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation to your local Meals on Wheels.
