Dwight C. Thompson passed away on February 20, 2018, after a short battle with cancer. His residency in Edmonds, Washington, since 1977 with his wife Mathilda (Millie) and their two sons was the longest single sustained residency in his 78 years.He and Millie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November, 2017, with their sons Christopher and wife Julia of Bothell, Washington, and Paul and wife Celeste of Hillsboro, Oregon, all of whom survive him.In addition he is survived by his sister Carol Ryan and brother, Richard Thompson and many nieces and nephews, all residents of California. He had numerous friends here and in the Netherlands who will miss him.Dwight was a creative and affable soul who enjoyed meeting new people as well as participating in activities with old friends. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Edmonds Senior Center, the Friends of the Edmonds Library, and of Holy Rosary Parish in Edmonds.Dwight was born in Davison, Michigan, on April 30, 1939, to Carl and Margaret Thompson who were part of a farming family enterprise. After graduating from high school in Michigan, Dwight moved with his family to California. There he enlisted in the navy. After his service he earned an AA degree in California. Returning to the work arena, he got a job in Chicago where he met his future wife, Mathilda, and they married November 1967. He then began to work for IBM Corporation. After spending seven years in New Hampshire, he transferred to Washington and settled in Edmonds. He is retired from Dwight was also in the military reserves for 28 years and is retired from the army. He served actively as back-up doing computer work during the First Gulf War and during the Bosnia conflict.
