Frank Fisher
December 23rd, 1920 - January 3rd, 2019
Our beloved Frank I. Fisher passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2019 at 98 years of age. Survived by his loving wife of 72 years Dorothy; daughter, Judith (Mohammad) Tafreshi; son, Frank (Louise) Fisher and grandchildren, Rameen and Lynsey Tafreshi. Frank was born on December 23rd,1920 to Edwin and Rose Fisher in Brooklyn, New York. Frank was the second oldest of four brothers and loved to compete in track and baseball as a teen. All throughout Frank’s life he made friends as he loved to connect with others. He valued his friendships and maintained them even across continents throughout his life. Frank’s legacy can be summed up through his devotion to public service. Frank joined the National Guard when he was 17. He served his country during World War II in the 186th Field Artillery that saw action on D-Day+1 on Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, the Falaise Pocket Battle and the liberation of Paris, ending the war in Pilzen, Czechoslovakia. Returning home from the war, Frank joined the New York City Police Department where he served in the motorcycle division for over a decade. He escorted many dignitaries including Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower. During this time he was married to the love of his life Dorothy, in 1947. In 1969 Frank and Dorothy moved to New Hampshire where they lived for nearly 30 years, enjoying snowmobiling and being members of clubs such as the Londonderry Rough Riders and the Derry Emergency Civilian Communication Association (DECCA); Frank was elected president of both clubs. During this time Frank worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department. He retired from there in 1986 and then began serving as a bailiff until he and Dorothy moved to Washington State in 1994. Once in Washington, Frank and Dorothy settled in at Creekside retirement park in Everett for nearly 20 years. While living there, Frank remained civic minded, and volunteered with the Red Cross. Frank and Dorothy made one final move to live closer to their daughter Judith in 2013, joining the Crista Community in Shoreline. While at Crista, Frank began sharing his experiences serving the Country that he loved so much, to high school students throughout Washington State. Frank died proud of his service to his Country, community and friends. He was deeply loved and cherished by all. You can visit Frank Fisher’s memorial stone in Tahoma National Cemetery. Any donations should be directed to World Concern for CRISTA or Boys Town.
