Bob was born in Eugene, Oregon to Delbert and Leona Johnson. He spent part of his childhood in Evaro, Montana and then returned to Oregon and attended Milwaukie High School. He filled his time working with animals through 4-H and FFA and enjoyed roller skating at Oaks Park. He liked the Air Force more than school and served for a total of 15 years, including active duty and reserves. He was called up during the Cuban missile crisis, but when it resolved itself quickly he returned home. Bob's early career was as a contractor. He built a number of houses in South Salem, several homes at Ripplebrook Ranger Station on Mount Hood, and a number of homes in Gladstone. To try something new, he started two businesses at the same time making plastic signs and synthetic marble vanity tops. Bob loved serving in the Milwaukie Kiwanis Club for 35 years including as president and then Lt. Governor. Bob married Joan Hayes in 1981 and instantly added 4 daughters to his 3 sons. He loved traveling with Joan, flying his "Bluegoose" Cessna airplane, and meeting groups of friends for early morning breakfasts. He may be remembered most for his sense of humor and his many practical jokes. His dentist was surprised when Bob paid hi bill with a dump truck load of pop cans on his lawn. Bob was predeceased by his parents Delbert Johnson (1985) and Leona Johnson (1980); his sister Velora Parsons (2003); his wife Joan Hayes Johnson (Oct. 20, 2017); and Joan's daughter Kim Hannon (Lancaster, CA, Dec. 12, 2014). Bob is survived by his 3 sons from his first marriage to Maryanna Nichols: Dwight (Beckie) Johnson in Taichung, Taiwan, Kevin (Melinda) Johnson and Brian (Cynde) Johnson both in Gladstone, OR. He is also survived by 3 of Joan's daughters, Theresa (Tom) Jarmer of Gladstone OR, Collette (Tino) Versoza of Canby OR, and Toinette/Toni (Brian) Bronson of Tualatin OR.
