Riley Broadwater, 88, of Gate City, passed away (August 16th, 2015) at Indian Path Medical Center. A native of Scott County, he was the owner and operator of Broadwater Trading Company. He started in the business at age 12 and saw it through its 100th year of operation. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Riley had a keen sense of humor and was a man dedicated to serving his community. He also enjoyed spending time on his farm. Riley loved his family dearly and enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.A. Broadwater and Clara Mae McConnell Broadwater; his siblings, Kate Addington, Fannie Repass, Pauline Richmond, Charles Broadwater, Bill Broadwater, B.J. Broadwater, Ruth Carter, Jaqueline Quillen, Jo Bledsoe and Jim Broadwater. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jean Kerns Broadwater; daughter, Amy Fellhauer and husband Dan; two sons, Charlie Broadwater and Jason Broadwater and wife Tara; four grandchildren, Jackson Broadwater, Daniel Riley Fellhauer, Addison Broadwater and Will Fellhauer; special niece, Charla Pruitt and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 till 8pm Wednesday (August 19th, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 8pm with Rev. Bill Porter and Rev. J.W. Bowen officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm Thursday at Holston View Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be presented by the American Legion Post 3/265 along with the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be Jason Cleek, Dan Fellhauer, Randy Griffin, Dave Doughtery, Stacy Porter and Jim Pruitt. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 to follow in procession. Those desiring may make memorials to the charity of one's choice. Special thanks should go to the staff of Indian Path ICU for their care of Riley.
