Bernice Novella Burton
September 29th, 1937 - August 15th, 2015
Bernice Novella Burton, 77 of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 15, 2015 after a period of declining health. She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and retired from J. P. Stevens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Elsie Mowdy Gatewood; sisters, Gladys Freeman and Mattie Kersey; brothers, Garnie, Dewey and Charles Gatewood, Jr. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Sharon Berry of Surgoinsville; son, Gary Burton (Pat) of Kingsport; grandchildren, Daniel, Micah, Harley, Alisha and Jake; great-grandchildren, Alec, Gavin and Hiley; sister, Bonnie Derrick; brothers, Lewis and James Gatewood; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A graveside service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. at Carters Valley Cemetery. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Burton family.
