We were so sorry to hear about Don's passing. I remember carrying Don and his wife, Nadine, on Old Betsy during one of the Holiday Walks downtown. Don and Nadine were dressed as Santa and Mrs. Santa. That will be one of our favorite memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

God brought our families together 20 years ago when my son David and Don's daughter Bridgett met again after having attended Venice High together. Really it was their sons Ben and Seth who attended Taylor Ranch together and played the saxaphone in the band together who thought it would be great for their parents to meet. And it happened and then Don and Nadene joined forces with the boys and myself and a great union of both families came to be. Time spent at Four Winds, a cruise on the Royal Carribean together, love of music, trips to Disney and dinners at The Crows Nest solidified our friendship. Don was a gentleman of the 'old school' and I loved our times together and his love of living life to the fullest. The photo of Don and Nadene as Santa and Mrs. Claus is one of the memories I cherish. My sympathy to Nadene and remaining family. May God let the great memories remind you of the good days you all shared with each other and Don. I pray that God gives peace and comfort to all of you.

Nadene and family I am sorry to hear of the passing of my cousin Don. We had a lot of good memories growing up at the farm, cabin up north, and family reunions. I'm sorry we didn't remain closer as we got older. God be with you and give you peace.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Don. We were fortunate to know him as fellow educators, but especially as a music teacher to our sons while at Laurel Nokomis School. He certainly was a great role model and inspiration to many people. We will always remember his calm and patient demeanor. He had a great impact on all of the students he interacted with throughout his many years of teaching. Our hearts go out to you Nadene, and the rest of the family.

Mr. Burman was an incredible role model and band teacher at Laurel Nokomis School. He was a kind man who worked hard to include all types of students in the band program and instill a love of music. He went above and beyond classroom expectations to find opportunities for the middle school jazz band to play at local festivals and events. He even brought the middle school band to Magic Kingdom at Disney World to perform. I was able to see Disney from behind the scenes because I was fortunate enough to have a teacher who was so passionate about his students. -Rachel (Dunn-Rankin) Frank former student

How did you meet Donald?

Don taught music and I taught art next door. I was a young teacher back then with one daughter who attended school there at Southside. Don loved what he did for a living and so did I. He was my go to with questions on how things work in the school system. I will never forget when Don and I were called into the office by the “principal” and were told our full time jobs were no more due to the budget cuts in the arts as chosen by our boss who was once married to an art teacher. Don took it better than I did. I was a single mom struggling not knowing what would happen next. Don knew how things worked and we both moved on to even better teaching jobs. Don was a good person who touched a lot of lives!
