Mario Huertas

September 25th, 1930 - May 23rd, 2021

Mario Huertas , 90, of Winter Haven, Florida passed away May 23, 2021 at Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven , Florida . He was born on September 25, 1930 in Yabucoa , Puerto Rico to Francisco and Basilisa (Siso) Huertas. Mario is survived by his wife Milagros Lopez Nieves, sons Greg Huertas, Bruce (Cathleen) Huertas and Kurt (Lorie) Huertas grandchildren Crystal Huertas, Kenneth (Adriana) Huertas, Stefanie Huertas, Jason Huertas, Deanna Huertas, great grandchildren Ethan and Olivia. At 17 years old Mario left Puerto Rico for Chicago, he did not speak English nor did he yet earn his high school diploma. Despite that he found work in a cigarette factory and then took on the daunting task of teaching himself English. Now bilingual, he eventually moved to New York City where he became a shipping manager for Lincoln Metal Products. His extensive knowledge of the boroughs of New York served him well as he then managed shipping for a major wine importer and distributor. His fondness for Puerto Rico never left him and he returned to the island in semi-retirement and coordinated the construction of a beautiful home on a hillside overlooking Las Piedras, PR. Wanting to see more of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren he relocated to Winter Haven, FL but his birthplace of Puerto Rico was forever on his mind. The family will receive friends at Steele's Family Family Funeral Services on June 2, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be immediately after the visitation 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Rolling Hills Cemetery, Winter Haven, Florida immediately after the funeral service.

My sincerest condolences to the Huertas Family. I know how absolutely lost Milagros Lopez Nieves must be these next few days, and weeks. Mario will leave a huge gaping gap in the lives of those he leaves behind. Mario was a very dear quite sort of man, yet a small giant. I came to know Mario when I moved to Florida and it was very easy to get to know him. He loved to talk politics, at least with me, however, any topic of conversation we shared was both interesting and engaging. He did not mind sharing his view points for he did have that innate ability to know who he could be an "open book" with and he who could not be as open. He was a true gentleman., characteristics that is almost none existent today, seemly, unless it is used as getting to a means to an end. He was also a man that openly spoke proudly of each of his sons. He loved to share about their accomplishments. He also loves to share photos of his grandchildren. In other words, Family was everything. His devotion to his wife was truly admirable for he was a wonderful provider which encompassed both emotional and financial support. He work his entire life and to name a few he served as a Supervisor at Lincoln Metal housed out of Brooklyn, NY., for over 25 years. Oddly enough when he returned to Puerto Rico, he worked at the same location my mother work, Squibb/Myers, Pharmaceuticals. He served in Security during his tenure there. So Mario was well rounded. I came to know that among other of his interests, he had a love for Roosters. I hear tell he had as many as 60 in count in his home land, Puerto Rico. Mario was the individual, most men should model. Never, giving up, NEVER. As we can all attest, none of us are perfect. We are all sinners, but he did Love the Lord and he studied His Word. He served the Lord not by show and pretense but by his actions once he committed his life to Jesus. I shall miss Mario, opening up his garage door daily, almost as an invitation for me to visit for a spell. But I will look forward to seeing Mario again in Heaven. To Milagros: When it seems that life in just simply out of control, and at this moment it is, remember God's Sovereignty and power IS in control. All things are possible through God and we can rest assure He will never forget us or leave us.

Mom I thought you would appreciate this- "Love doesn't die with death, Love is like liguid; when it pours out, it seeps into others' lives". Love changes form and shape. Love gets into everything. Death doesn't conquer all; love does. Love wins every single time. Love wins by lasting through death. Love wins by loving more, loving again, loving without fear. Rest in Peace now Mom, knowing that your were "LOVED".

Mario, your buddy, Martin, aka, Willie, loved all times we shared. Mario you were a kind and beautiful man. One of my favorite things to do was to go to the "Yard Sales". The only problem, Mario, you always wanted to see and touch every item so we could only make it to one of the numerous "Sales" of the weekend, yet, I confess, I wouldn't change those special times we spent together. You will be missed by all who knew you, "Rest in Peace Mario".

Esperanza
