John T. Loughrey, age 78, of Venice, Florida, passed away on August 20, 2008. He was born on March 23, 1930 in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He was employed for 30 years with General Motors in Linden, New Jersey and moved to Venice from Hazlet, New Jersey 23 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen of Venice; children, John Loughrey, Jr. of Suffield, Connecticut, Judy Smutko of Bradley Beach, New Jersey, Debbie Connelly of Nokomis, David Loughrey of Englewood and a sister, Mary Slater of Stoughton, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008 from 6:00-8:00PM at Farley Funeral Home in Venice. A visitation will also be held from 10:00am-11:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at South Venice Baptist Church. Entombment to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens.
