Donald H. Snyder, 81, of Venice, FL, formerly of Braintree, MA, passed away on February 1st. He was born on May 13, 1926 in Allentown, PA. He served in the US Navy during WW II aboard the USS Moffett. After the war, he was a Braintree police officer for 20 years. In 1968 he came to Florida and served as an investigator for the Florida State Attorneys Office. He served as president of the National Police Officers Association of America from 1965 to 1967. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel, was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Police. He had a love of animals. Survivors include his wife of 35 years Jacqueline; two sons, Donald Jr. of Meredith, NH, and Ronald of Quincy, MA; two daughters, Donna Haynes of Florida, and Dr. Kimberly Snyder Gilchrist of Wellington, FL; three brothers, John Edens of Allentown, PA, and Bob Edens of Cushing, MN, and William Snyder of Allentown, PA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 4 -7 PM on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 AM the following day at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sarasota Memorial Park.
