Thomas A. Fertal, age 85, of Venice, Florida, passed away on November 11, 2007. He was born in Larksville, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1922. He was a Supervisor with Corning Glass in Bluffton, Indiana and retired with 35 years of service. He moved to Venice seven years ago from Ossian, Indiana. He was a member of American Legion Post # 159 and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church both in Venice. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served at Guadalcanal & Midway during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen; daughters, Anne Dowling of Albany, New York, Eileen VanHeusen of Aurora, Colorado; son, Thomas G. Fertal of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Helen Fertal and Margaret Fertal both of Larksville, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Ellen Dowling, John Dowling, Kate VanHeusen and Meghan VanHeusen and three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Sydney and Madison. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His family wants to thank their family members and many friends for their kind thoughts and prayers during the past several weeks and months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2007 -10:00AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with interment to follow in the church garden. Memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice & Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34238. Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
