Cass Lukas, age 86, of Venice, died on September 12, 2007. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 1, 1921, and came to Venice in 1984 from Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was employed by Varig Brazilian Airlines, stationed in Rio De Janeiro. Cass was a member of the American Legion Post #159 in Venice, and had served as Commander of 10 different VFW Posts in New York. He was a member of the Presbyterian Faith. He is survived by wife Carol Lukas, of Venice; daughters Karen Lewis of Mt. Dora, FL, and Christine Hopkins of Mooresville, NC; son Walter S. Lukas of Boca Raton, FL; sister Marie Hogan of Warminster, PA; and his nephew Michael Griffin of South Hampton, PA A memorial service will be held at a later date. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family requests memorial donations be made to either the American Diabetes Association, Humane Society of Sarasota County, or the VFW National Home.
