Byron N. Jones, age 85, of Venice, died on December 30, 2006. He was born in Ft. Ogden, FL on March 14, 1921, and came to this area in 1936. He worked as a foreman in the construction business in the Venice area before he retired. Byron was a member of Venice Nokomis united Methodist Church and served as the Church Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Venice/Nokomis Old Timers Committee. Surviving family members include his sons, Nathan of Seffner and Michael of Port Charlotte; sister Zula Read of Tallahassee; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 3rd from 4:30 – 7:30 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 4th, 10 AM, at Venice Nokomis United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Jesse Knight Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in his name to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, or Venice Nokomis United Methodist Church, 208 Palm Ave., Nokomis, FL 34275.
