Edward P. Gawne
September 27th, 1938 - December 1st, 2006
Edward P. Gawne, Venice, FL (formerly Yorkville, IL), age 68, of Venice, Florida, passed away of Friday, December 1st, after a courageous seven month battle with cancer. Survivors include wife of 26 years, Peggy (Gette) Gawne and four sons; Edward (Robin), Charles, Michael (Desanie), and Stephen (Julie). He is also survived be ten grandchildren, Anthony, Alissa, Cole, Brock, Cassidy, Mackensey, Emily, Aidan, Parker, and Madelyn. Dear brother of Charles, Loretta “Peachy” Gillen, and Kathy Brooks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles B. & Loretto Gawne, and sister, Maureen Hart (Thomas). A graduate of both Fenwick H.S. in Oak Park, IL and Loras College in Dubuque, IA, he completed six months active duty in the Army and served of seven years in the US Army Reserves. His career was anchored in the Concrete Pipe business, where he spent many successful years as the Concrete Pipe Sales Manager for Material Service Corporation. Edward was dedicated to serving his local community as the Vice Chairman of the Kendall County Planning Commission. He was also a former member of the Yorkville School Board, the Yorkville JCs, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the Underground Contractors Association, the Ground Hog Club of Chicago, and enjoyed his musical outlet as an Aurora Lamp Lighter. He participated in church activities as both CCD Principal, Teacher and Commentator for both St. Patrick’s & St. Mary’s Churches in the Yorkville, IL area. Ed retired in 1995 after many successful years in the concrete business. He adored spending time with his family, especially his wife Peggy and enjoyed traveling with her and their many friends. He remained loyal to his community through volunteering at Venice Regional Hospital and serving as a bailiff at the Kendall County Courthouse in Illinois. Services will be held on December 7th, 10 AM at the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. In addition, a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Yorkville, IL. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of local services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, NY, NY 10005.
