William Bailey
April 4th, 1916 - August 1st, 2006
William “Bud” Bailey was born in Frankford Hospital, Philadelphia, PA on April 4 1916 to parents William Carlyle Bailey and Mabel Elizabeth Wagner Bailey. He passed away on August 1st. Bud attended public schools in Philadelphia and graduated from Frankford High School. He attended Drexel for three years in Engineering. He graduated from West Chester College with a B.S. in Education. He graduated from East Carolina University with an M.S. in Education. While a student at West Chester, Bud participated in intercollegiate sports on teams in: football, soccer, swimming, lacrosse, tennis, and track. He was also a member of intramural basketball and roller skate hockey teams. He also played minor league baseball for three years in South Carolina and Florida. Military service stared in 1940 as a radio operator and mechanic in the Army. He became a pilot in the Air Corps. He served in Europe and Africa during World War II in the 92nd Troop Carrier Squadron. He retired as a Lt. Colonel after 23 years of service. After high school he was employed by H. Brinton Co. as a machinist and toolmaker. He was a safety representative for the American Red Cross for four years and was past president of the Massachusetts Safety Council. He was a safety engineer for the DuPont Company for 19 years. He was a safety manager for Stone & Webster Engineering Company for 16 years. Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years of married bliss, Doris A. Kirkpatrick Bailey of North Port; two sons, Alan C. and Carolyn Bailey of Chattanooga, TN, Richard C. and Jane Bailey of Newton, NH; daughter Carol Anne Bailey of Nashua, NH; two sisters, Mary Street of Lakewood, NJ and Ruth Kane of Margate, NJ; brother Albert Bailey of North Wales, PA; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, seven nieces and six nephews.
