Richard J. Smith, of Venice, FL and Canton, MA died on April, 3, 2006. He was 72 years old. He was born on April 21, 1933 in Weymouth, MA where he was raised and attended Sacred Heart grammar and high school. He worked as a self-employed electrician for many years and later was a wire inspector for the town of Canton, MA and an assistant wire inspector for the City of Quincy, MA until his retirement in 1998. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus # 2095 a member of Canton Town Club and a member of the St. John’s School Foundation, Canton, MA. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth A. (Whitty), of Venice, FL and Canton, MA; children, Richard J Smith of Falmouth, MA; Mary A. Finn of CN; Betty Ann Barrera of Franklin, MA; Joseph W. Smith of Canton, MA; Gerard C. Smith of Harwich, MA; James B. Smith of NH; sisters, Eleanor Smith of IL; and Frances Melanson of Weymouth, MA; 17 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at St. John’s Evangelist Church, Canton, MA. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
