He played travel hockey from ages 5 to 16, until he moved to Florida with his family where he attended and graduated from Sarasota High School. He worked at Kilwins in Sarasota, where he later became a manager for several years. Ron attended Manatee Community College, where he received his Associate of Arts Degree. He then graduated from University of South Florida with his Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in American Sign Language. While attending college, he took a break from school to travel. He traveled to and briefly lived and worked as a flooring assistant in 47 states. After that, he backpacked through Europe. Ron later worked in the mental health field for 10+ years, where he met his coworker and future wife, Michelle, in 2003. They began dating February 7, 2004. Ron asked Michelle to marry him on August 7, 2004, and they then married on October 28, 2006. Ron and Michelle decided to grow their family in 2012, when Ron became the homemaker.
