George O. & Jean (Fabianski) Abel

George O. Abel passed away on February 3, 2022, and his beloved wife, Jean (Fabianski) Abel passed away on February 6, 2022. He was born on August 5, 1937 in Hastings, PA and Jean was born on March 24, 1936 in Waterbury, CT. They resided in Oakville, CT with George working for the State of Connecticut until his retirement and Jean retired from the United States Postal Service and moved to Venice where they resided for the past 25 years. George was a veteran of the US Army, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus which he was a Fourth Degree Knight. They were both parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes. George and Jean are survived by their son, Donald Maher and his wife, Anne of Westport, NY; grandchildren, Kathleen and Jon Geihsler of Brooklyn, NY, Jameson and Katelynn Maher of St. Albans, VT and Lauren Maher (Alex Wright) of Lewis, NY. Their first great-grandchild is due in May. George leaves behind a brother, Clair (Dorothy) Abel; goddaughter, Johnna Lou Chin and several nieces and nephews . Jean leaves behind a special niece, Valerie Fabianski and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Abel and siblings, John, Eugene, Ralph, Leona, Bernard, Camilla and Adrian. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Walda Fabianski and three brothers, Edward, Alexander, and Arthur Fabianski. Memorial donations in memory of George can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org) and to the Knights of Columbus (www.kofc.org). Donations in memory of Jean can be made to the North County SPCA, P.O. Box 55, 7700 US Route 9N, Elizabethtown, NY 12932 (www.ncspca.org).
