Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Ruth Ann Sorensen
September 17th, 1944 - June 13th, 2022
Ruth Ann Sorensen, 77, passed away surrounded by family on June 13, 2022, in Venice, FL. She was born on September 17, 1944, in Chicago, IL to Ruth Johnson. After she graduated from Asbury Park High School, she lived in Bradley Beach and Asbury Park for many years until she moved in with her mother in Oakhurst. She relocated to Venice, FL in 2020 after buying her first house at the age of 74. Ruth enjoyed bowling on her bowling team in Asbury Park, playing cards and slot machines at the casino, completing word searches, and collecting teddy bears. She always made people laugh with her jokes, she loved Pepsi, the color purple, and her family. One of her favorite past times was playing skippo with her mom, her sister Martha, and the neighbors for nickels. She enjoyed playing solitaire with all the grandkids. If one of the kids would miss a move, she was the first to notice and call them out! If she wasn’t home, you could probably find her at the Crown Royal Casino playing the Leprechaun game with her daughter, Sharon. She would get so excited when she would win, even though she probably put more money in than came out. Her favorite vacations were with her best high school friends, Barbara and Barry, especially to Pennsylvania. Another to the islands with Ann. She also loved going out to eat and finishing off everyone’s plate by asking “Are you done with that?” She will be remembered as a daughter, mother, grandma, and friend. But mostly as a strong, quiet woman who could withstand anything and sleep anywhere, including the family couch. She loved being around everyone and wasn’t one to complain. She was truly special and someone to be looked up too. She is predeceased by her son Alfie Orlando, daughter Mary Ellen Lewis, and granddaughter-in-law Sheree Barnes. She is survived by her siblings Stephen (Jane), Martha, and Danny (Christine) Remley, her daughter Sharon (Jeff) Barnes, grandchildren Jeffrey Barnes Jr., Nicole (Adam) Rankin, Jennifer (Paul) Siciliano, Ryan Barnes, Amanda (Tyler) Cain, Alysha (Jordan) Gray, Jessica Lewis, Desiree Lewis, Josh Glab, Gabriella Orlando, and Savannah Orlando, 21 grandchildren, and many friends and family. A memorial service will be held at Lift Church, 695 Center Rd, Venice, FL 34285, on Saturday June 25, 2022, at 11AM. A reception will follow.
