Susan Eloise Thompson

Susan Eloise Thompson, 75, passed away on July 20, 2022, in Sarasota, FL. She was born on May 17, 1947, in St. Paul, MN to Andrew and Emily (Claussen) Combs. Susan graduated from Red Wing High School in 1965. She spent most of her life working in the hospitality industry, including Director of Conference Services at the Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park, MN for nine years, the Sheraton Premier in Tysons Corner, VA for nine years and she was a key member of the opening team for the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Georgetown, Washington DC. She married her husband Gayle R. Thompson in 1999. Susan and Gayle relocated to Nokomis, FL in 2019. They had previously resided in Naples, FL, Potomac Falls, VA, and Lakeville, MN. Susan relished family and friends, she had an electric personality and when she walked into a room, everyone knew she was there. She was a nature girl, she loved birds, especially hummingbirds, cardinals, and mourning doves. Susan was fascinated by the magnificence of trees and loved walking among them. Traveling, spending time with family and friends, and sitting or walking near large bodies of water were important ways for her to spend time. She will be remembered as a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mentor, friend, and as a wife, loving partner, and soul mate to Gayle. Susan is predeceased by her parents Andrew and Emily Combs; her son Andrew Thalberg; and siblings Penny Miller and Richard Combs. She is survived by her husband Gayle R. Thompson, daughter Gina Ferrell, son Jason Thalberg (Robin Savard-Chartier), siblings Tom (Jill) Combs, Nancy (Mike) Ruth, Jeffrey Combs, and Steven Combs, grandchildren Jordan (Nicolle) Thalberg, Austin Ferrell, and Shea Farrell, great grandchildren Amara, Phoenix, and Kingston, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on August 20, 2022, at Farley Funeral Home and Crematory, 265 Nokomis Avenue, Venice, FL. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00PM following the service at The Westin, 100 Marina View Drive, Sarasota, FL.
