Gaylord E. Pack

Gaylord E. Pack, Jr, 96, of Osprey, FL, (formerly of Paintsville, Ky), entered the Kingdom of Heaven on November 11, 2022. Gaylord was born in Paintsville, Ky on May 03, 1926, the son of Gaylard E. Pack & Sylvia Ruth (Arrowood) Pack. As a child of the Great Depression, Gaylord enjoyed playing on his grandfather's farm and helping in the family business. During World War II, he served in the United States Army and upon graduating Officer Candidate School, Gaylord was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. In 1947, Gaylord married his wife of 74 years, Ms. Jane Dabney Pack and went onto graduate from the University of Kentucky earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in 1948. After managing Pinson Transfer in Pikeville, KY, Gaylord purchased a bankrupt auto parts store in Paintsville, KY and continued to grow the business eventually expanding to 6 locations in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. This gregarious entrepreneur co-founded the Kentucky Automotive Wholesalers Association and successfully lobbied for legislation to enact vehicle safety inspections in the state of Kentucky. He went on to mentor both of his sons in their own business pursuits. Gaylord was an avid boater and fulfilled his dream of building his own cabin cruiser. He and his wife traveled extensively via motorhome throughout 48 states including Alaska and Canada. During retirement in Florida, Gaylord played tennis until the age of 89 and served as primary caregiver for the last several years of his wife's life. Gaylord was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dordena Pack McNally and his loving wife or 74 years, Jane Dabney Pack. Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Click of Osprey, FL, a son, David E. Pack of Osprey, FL & a son, Bob Pack of Paintsville, Ky, as well as 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. This proud U. S. Army officer has now been promoted and has reported for duty on his next deployment assigned this Veterans' Day, November 11, 2022.
