Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Janice Marie Banks
December 29th, 1957 - November 14th, 2022
Janice Marie Banks passed away on November 14, 2022, in Sarasota, FL at the age of 64. She was born on December 29, 1957, to Timothy and Marie (Alexander) Brophy in Paterson, New Jersey. She grew up in a loving family alongside her older brother Brian Brophy, her younger brother Timothy Brophy Jr., and her younger sister Debbie Brophy. Janice graduated from Passaic Valley Regional High School in 1975 and attended William Paterson University from 1975-1979, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Art. Janice worked briefly in graphic design but was much more widely known for the business she founded in Bethlehem, PA, Sew What’s New, which allowed her to share her creative talents throughout the Lehigh Valley. She successfully ran her business while simultaneously raising two children, Stephanie and Garrett, with her former husband Paul. Seeking milder winters and sunnier days, Janice moved to Venice, FL in 2015. There she reconnected with many friends and extended family members, formed strong new friendships, and enjoyed many joyful adventures around Southwest Florida. Janice’s greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her friends and family, who she held dear to her heart. In addition to her friends and family, Janice found love again with Ted Taylor, with whom she shared many cycling adventures and cooking escapades. She also enjoyed interior decorating and design, which was clear to anyone visiting her home, as all her residences throughout her life could easily have doubled as a decorating show room. Janice also enjoyed cooking, finding the most delicious gluten-free recipes, and embarking on the lifelong journey of trying to find a tomato that tasted better than a Jersey tomato. While she ultimately never discovered a better tomato, her radiant smile, infectious laugh, and delightful character bettered the lives of all those around her. She is dearly missed and will never be forgotten by all of those who knew her. Janice is predeceased by her mother Marie Brophy and her fiancé Ted Taylor. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Tanya) Banks, son Garrett (Christina) Banks, father Timothy Brophy, brothers Brian Brophy and Tim Brophy Jr., sister Debbie Brophy, and countless friends and extended family.
