Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Robert Richard Benoit, Jr.
May 11th, 1949 - May 30th, 2023
Robert Richard Benoit, Jr., 74 passed away on May 30, 2023, in Englewood, FL. Born May 11, 1949, in Concord, NH to Robert Benoit, Sr. and Joyce (Garceau), Robert graduated from Douglas McArthur High School in Levittown, NY in 1967, where he played lacrosse. He continued with lacrosse, playing goalie at Stevens Institute of Technology (‘72). At Stevens he majored in civil engineering and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity (affectionately called “Tank”). As a professional civil engineer, he contributed to the design of Naval warships and the Hubble Space Telescope. As a contractor and licensed professional engineer doing residential work, he designed and built the house in South Salem, NY where his children were raised, as well as many other homes and buildings in the metro-NY area. An avid reader, he favored Science Fiction, especially Issac Asimov, and enjoyed watching NCAA lacrosse. He was a devoted coach to his children, coaching their lacrosse and softball teams for many seasons and was always found cheering on the sidelines for all of their respective high school sports forays (both home and away games). His coaching instilled the importance of “keeping your eye on the ball” and “practicing your non-dominant hand.” In 2017, he reconnected with his childhood friend, classmate, and Junior prom date, Andrea D. Mikus at their 50th high school reunion and relocated to Englewood, Fl, where they were married on Sept 4, 2021. A devout Catholic, Robert spent many years as a member of the church choir, Cursillo, and served as a CCD catechist, at St. Mary's in South Salem, NY. He is predeceased in death by his parents, his uncle Roland Benoit, and brother David Benoit. He is survived by current spouse Andrea D. Mikus, children Danielle (Daniel) Manner, Robert (Carol) Benoit III, Megan (John) Freyer, and Alec (Athina Procopis) Benoit and grandchildren Natalie, Grace, Delaney, Lila, Thea, Eloise, Holland, Everett, and James. The family will receive visitors from 3-5 pm, June 12th, at Farley Funeral Home, 265 Nokomis Ave S, Venice, FL. A mass will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1301 Center Rd, Venice, FL. A burial will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens, 1950 Center Rd, Venice, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
