Charles Russell Kinder

Charles Russell “Bud” Kinder passed from this life on June 8th, 2023. He was born in Madison WV to Robert Scott Kinder and Netta Javins Kinder on December 23rd, 1932. Bud graduated from Scott HS in Madison and attended WVU, where he earned his BA and MA. He met Barbara, his wife of 68 years, while both were studying at WVU. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Elaine Lawson Kinder and grandson Jacob Will Sasser, and brother Robert Noel Kinder. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lawson Kinder, children Thomas Scott Kinder (Colleen) and Beth Kinder Sasser (James) and grandchildren Ryan Joseph Kinder, Elizabeth Shea Kinder, and Calista Sasser Ruh, Brother-in-law William T Lawson Jr. (Jo) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bud was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the USAF and served on active duty for almost 15 years. He was stationed at Andrew AFB, Itazuke AFB Japan, Hq. PACAF, Hickam AFB, HI, and Miami University, Oxford, OH. He served in the Army National Guard for more than 8 years. He resigned his commission from the Air Force to pursue an advanced degree and earned his Ph.D. from Miami University. He served in the Army National Guard for more than eight years, retiring with the rank of Major. Upon completion of his Ph.D., he joined the staff at Miami University where he served as Director of Financial Aid, Associate Dean of Student Services and taught strategic planning in the School of Education. Later, he served as Director of Financial Aid at Virginia Commonwealth University and as President of the Virginial Student Financial Aid Association. Bud was an active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, taught adult Sunday school, sang in the choir, played trombone, and served on numerous committees. In 2009 Bud and Barbara moved to Calusa Lakes in Nokomis, Florida. While there, Bud oversaw the community data base. They later moved to Village on the Isle, where he served on the committee to establish a communication app for the residents. Bud was also an avid supporter of P.E.O. During his lifetime Bud had a keen interest in computers, religious studies, and supporting young people in achieving their goals. He loved history and the USA. He worked continuously, through his military service and his work with the Republican Central Committee to ensure our freedoms were never lost. A Celebration of Life will be held at Village on the Isle on June 29th at 10 AM in the Renaissance Room. Friends of the family are welcome to attend. Interment will be in the Sarasota National Cemetery at a future date.
