Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Katina A. Young
July 12th, 1942 - August 30th, 2023
Katina A. Young of Venice, passed away Wednesday, August 30th at the age of 81 years old. Katina was born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 12, 1942 and was raised and spent the majority of her younger years growing up in Lakeland, Florida where she eventually met the love of her life Robert J. Young, Jr (Bob). After marrying in 1969 they moved to Venice, Florida and soon after started a family that eventually led to three wonderful children, Trent, Troy and Anna. Bob and Katina were married 54 amazing years! Katina was a “momma bear” always looking after and championing her children, grandchildren, as well as their close friends. She was very active and involved in their life from being a Cub Scout Den Mother to volunteering for school projects. She never missed a single baseball or soccer game, dance recital or school event. Her house was filled with love, laughter and the best homemade dinners. In 1987 she opened an upscale gift shop, Leigh Alexandra’s on Venice Avenue that was adored by many. Shortly after, she founded The Cotillion Club of Venice in hopes to instill her strong beliefs in etiquette, manners and respect for others to the youth of Venice. Her “southern” elegance and charm was always apparent and Katina without fail, was proud to be a “lady”. She enjoyed spending time at the family vacation home in Lake Lure, North Carolina and was also an avid reader of novels and history, devouring book after book that led to the establishment of quite a library at her home. She was fond of watching movies at the theater, was an avid gardener, always tending to her beautiful roses and loved her many precious dogs over all of her years. Most of all Katina enjoyed being a grandmother. Affectionately known as “Grammy”, she absolutely adored her four beloved grandchildren Jackson, Lexie, Emma and Trent Jr. and spoiled them with genuine love at every turn. She was preceded in death by her parents James Perdicaris and Bessie Eady and by sisters Kathryn Weed, Helen Eady and Mary Joyce Godwin. She is survived by her devoted husband Bob; sister Hazel Douglas and brother Jim Perdicaris (Carol); sons Trent Young (Sydney) and Troy Young (Heather); daughter Anna Schulten; and grandchildren Jackson Schulten, Lexie Schulten, Emma Young and Trent Young Jr. A service of celebration and remembrance will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 6th, at Christ Venice Church located at 1475 Center Road in Venice.
