James Joel Slack

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Joel Slack, age 67, of Venice, FL, a dedicated retired Cobb County, Georgia firefighter and esteemed perpetual member of The Grand Lodge of Georgia, F.&A.M. Born on April 30, 1956, Joel departed from this world on April 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service and kindness. Joel is preceded in death by his loving mother Kathryn Tebo Slack and father James Alfred Slack. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Shock Slack, his cherished children Nate Slack (Micah), Jamie Gunnels (Matthew), and Kristin Gilmore (John). Joel's presence will forever be felt through his adored grandchildren, CJ Slack, Isabella Slack, Wyatt Perry, Elijah Gunnels, and Jacob Gunnels, and his siblings Charles Slack (Sandra), Kathy Mitchell (Mark), and John Slack. A memorial service to honor Joel's life will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens, 1950 Center Rd., on Friday, April 12 at 10 AM, followed by a gathering at his residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Suncoast Humane Society, Englewood, FL (https://humane.org/ Joel's dedication to his community and family will be dearly missed, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
