Ernest "Ryder" Rivera - March 28, 1933 - May 19, 2024
Ernest Rivera, affectionately known as Ryder, peacefully passed away on May 19, 2024, at the age of 91. Ryder was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, artist, musician, and devout family man.
Born on March 28, 1933, Ryder's life was a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the cowboy way. His passion for horses led to his nickname, Ryder, as he was often found riding the trails and embracing the freedom of the open plains.
During the Korean War, Ryder served in the Navy with honor, a service he was immensely proud of throughout his life. His dedication to his country and fellow servicemen defined his character.
Ryder was a true artisan, expressing his creativity through painting and woodcarving. His Southwest and Native American-inspired artwork adorned many homes and hearts. He had a remarkable talent for transforming Cottonwood Root and saguaro ribs into intricate Kachina dolls, picture frames, crosses, and canes, each piece a reflection of his passion and skill.
Music filled Ryder's soul, and he found solace in strumming his guitar, filling the air with melodies that echoed the beauty of his Arizona roots. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the rich aroma of a fine cigar.
A man of faith, Ryder faithfully performed his prayers every night, with a special devotion to his weekly Tuesday prayers at 4 pm. His spirituality was a guiding force in his life, offering him strength and peace.
Above all, Ryder treasured his family. As a father to seven children, he found immense joy in watching his family grow, with 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren adding light and laughter to his days. His love knew no bounds, and though he had a unique way of expressing it through jokes and nicknames, his affection for his siblings, nieces, and nephews was unwavering.
Ryder's legacy of love, creativity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His spirit will forever roam the vast landscapes he loved, riding into the sunset with the grace and dignity of a true cowboy.
A celebration of Ryder's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Meldrum Mortuary.
Rest easy, Ryder. Your journey may have ended, but your memory will forever ride on in our hearts.
