Carol H. Pettyjohn of Lynchburg passed away on Sunday August 29, 2021 at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville after a brief illness. She was 80 years old. She was born in Lynchburg, VA, on February 1, 1941, the daughter of the late Marjorie O. and S. Monroe Hubbard. She is survived by her brother, Samuel M. Hubbard, Jr. and his wife Virginia, and her lifelong friends Barbara and Walt Stancil and Barbara’s daughter Sherry Ware and her family. Carol was employed by The Virginia Department of Veteran’s Affairs for many years and was the claims agent for the Lynchburg office for much of that time. She was an advocate for retired and disabled veterans, spending many hours working to secure benefits for deserving clients. During that time, she opened the Red Horse Antique store in her home. Upon her retirement, she worked at various antique malls, including Circle A Antiques in Rustburg, VA where she worked for many years. She was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church (now Gospel Community Church, Rivermont). She had a special place in her heart for poodles and Shih Tzu dogs. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Chris Jordan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory on Wiggington Rd. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Building Fund at West Lynchburg Baptist Church, 3031 Memorial Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501.
