Paul Clive Deacon

Paul Clive Deacon, 83, of Forest, died on Monday April 22, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Born October 23, 1935 in Fall River, MA son of the late Rev. W Harold Deacon and Lillian Reed Deacon, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Robert Deacon.Paul was a graduate of Holderness School in Holderness, NH, Tufts University in Medford, MA and received his Masters of Education from Boston University in Boston MA. While in Massachusetts, Paul served as an Elementary school teacher and later became an Elementary School Principal Northfield, MA and North Attleboro MA. He relocated his family to Lynchburg in 1970 and spent the next 30 years as a Professor of Elementary Education at Lynchburg College. He readied hundreds of teachers for the classroom and school administration before retiring in 1999. In retirement, Paul and his wife Pat, traveled and camped extensively in their RV across North America. They volunteered with the National Park Service as camp ground hosts in the Elwha Valley of Olympic National Park and Otter Creek on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Paul was very proud of his volunteer service to his community including the Northfield, MA Volunteer Fire Department, Salvation Army and YMCA. Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat, his brother Bill (Nancy) , sons David (Mary-Winston), Doug (Cheryle) and daughter Debbie (Darryl), his grandchildren Jami Lee, Josh Lee (Kara), Billy Deacon, John Deacon, Brittany Deacon, Katie Shepherd (Cameron), Jeremy Caldwell (Andrea) and great- grandchildren Caroline Shepherd and Emory Lee along with many nieces and nephews.A celebration of Paul’s life will be conducted at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Perrowville Road in Forest, VA on Friday April 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. by the Reverend Mitzi Noble. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall and at other times at the residence.
