Henry R. “Hank” Vess, Jr., 90, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, in the Bedford Hospice House. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry R. Vess, Sr. and Margaret Windsor Vess, his loving wife of 60 years, Doris Addison Vess and one brother, James E. Vess. He is survived by two sons, Henry R. Vess, III (Chris Walroth) of Cashton, WI and Russell F. Vess (Pam) of Big Island; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Upon graduation from high school, Hank enlisted in the U.S. Army and served faithfully for four years including attachment to the 8th Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from active duty, Hank spent a forty-year career as an assistant engineer at Rubatex Corp. As an ordained deacon in the Baptist Church, Hank served as interim pastor at Millboro Christian Church for three years. Hank was active for fifty plus years in the A.F. & A.M. Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge # 84 where he was a past master and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing in his spare time. The family will receive friends, Thursday from 6-8 P.M. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with Masonic Rites being provided by the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge # 84 of Amherst. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 9, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. in Big Island Cemtery with the Rev. Dr. Monty Fox officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 16 of Lynchburg In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Hank’s memory to a charity of your choice.
