Lewis “David’ Tolley, 70, of Lynchburg VA, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday January 21st, 2023, at 7:30am at his home while holding his bride’s hand and surrounded by his sons. Born in Lynchburg on March 19th, 1952, the son of the late Joseph Ralph Tolley and Margaret Tolley Thomas. In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his brother James Ralph Tolley. David is survived by his loving wife Kathy of 44 years, three sons and two daughters in love Michael Tolley, Dave & April Tolley and Thomas & Denise Tolley; seven grandchildren Erin (Greg) Crawley, Zach Tolley, Chandler (Bri) Tolley, Grayson Tolley, Gabe Tolley, Logan Tolley and Ryleigh Tolley; two great-granddaughters Kyndal & Paityn Crawley and one on the way (Hadley Louise); three loving sisters, Ada (Buddy) Ashley, Patricia Ann Weeks, and Barbara Staton and several nieces and nephews and great nieces & nephews. He is also survived by his adoring fur child Princess who was at his feet until the end. Throughout his working life, David served at Lynchburg Drywall, Coca Cola, Budweiser and retired after 26 years of service with Lowes of Lynchburg. After 6 years of fervent prayers by his wife and a special group of ladies as well as many others, David surrendered his life to the Lord on April 28th, 2002. He was a member of Beulah Baptist church where he served the Lord over the years through their technical production and fellowship committees. David also served Beulah with silent acts of service helping with the upkeep of the church grounds. David’s faith in the Lord has been strengthened through his 6 and ½ year battle with cancer. God gave him a warrior of a doctor in Dr. Emmanuel Cirenza. From the beginning David and Dr. C agreed that God was in control of this journey. David shared Christ with every person he met, always giving honor and glory to the Lord. Through every challenge the Lord reminded us He was in control. Through every triumph we celebrated God’s provision. David said so many times “I wouldn’t have made it this far without the Lord & Dr. Cirenza.” The Tolley family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cirenza, wife Linda and their family for their Christian love, care, and prayers. A funeral will be held on Wednesday January 25th at 11am in the chapel at Diuguid’s on Timberlake with Pastor’s Mike Dodson and Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Diuguid’s on Timberlake and at other times at his residence. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center.
