Nancy Guthrie Abbott
July 18th, 1931 - July 8th, 2023
Nancy Guthrie Abbott, 91, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Cecil Ray Abbott, Sr. for fifty-six years. Born July 18, 1931, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Irene Rudder Guthrie and Lonie Waller Guthrie, Sr. She graduated from Volens High School and Virginia Commercial Business College. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother L. W. Guthrie, Jr., a sister Bobbie Guthrie Dickerson and a granddaughter, Kori Weeks. She is survived by two sons, Cecil Ray Abbott, Jr., and his wife, Janet, of Forest, Roger Alan Abbott, and his wife, Kelly, of Goode; one daughter, Rhonda Evans Miller and her husband, Rod, of Forest; grandchildren, Courtney DiBrango (Ed), Kristen Wallin (Matt), Kip Abbott (Megan), Kaitlyn Martin (Zach), Klaire Thomason (Nicholas), Aaron Evans, Zach Abbott, Jackson Miller and Tyler Miller; great grandchildren, Mason, Ava, Charlotte, Liam, Hazel, Ledger, Sawyer, Caroline, Kaiden, Mariah and C.J. a niece Debbie Edmunds (Pres). The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Bentley Commons and the therapy department for the exceptional care and support they provided. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church, 3031 Memorial Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501 or to Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg, 605 Clay St., Lynchburg, VA 24504.
