Mildred S Mitchell
April 7th, 1933 - August 13th, 2023
Mildred Mitchell, 90, of Lynchburg Virginia passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Heritage Green Assisted Living Facility in Lynchburg. Mildred was born in Long Island Virginia and was the oldest of 6 siblings. She graduated from Renan High School and began working at Edmunds and Williams Law firm in Lynchburg shortly thereafter. She continued to work at the law firm for more than 60 years and it was a very important part of her life. She loved her job there and the people that she worked with were her lifelong friends. In addition to working her whole life Mildred was also a loving wife and mother. She was married to Warren Nichols "Nick" Mitchell Jr from 1957 until his death in 1991. Mildred was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years and she had many friends there as well. She loved to travel with her friends and they enjoyed frequent outings to Smith Mountain Lake and Carolina beaches as well as trips to the American west and Europe over the years. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, bridge, sewing and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Elsie Stone of Long Island Virginia as well as two brothers, "C.R." Stone of Anchorage Alaska and "Sammy" Stone of Long Island Virginia. She is survived by daughter Susan Mitchell of Fayetteville WV, sister Carrie Gallaher of Lynchburg and brothers James Stone of Lynchburg and Ray Stone of Long Island Virginia as well as nieces Carole Guandique and Cathy Gallaher and nephews Sam Stone, Matthew Stone and Adam Stone. Funeral services will be at 1:00 on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Timberlake Church, 21649 Timberlake Road. There will be a brief reception at the church after the service followed by the graveside service at Fort Hill Cemetery which all are welcome to attend.
