Ryland Mitchell "Mitch"" Tweedy
April 11th, 1951 - February 18th, 2018
On February 18, 2018, Ryland Mitchell Tweedy went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by Jean M. Tweedy, his wife of 44 years, his three daughters, Jill C. Tweedy, Jacqueline T. Mckelvey, and Julie T. Justice. Mitch's beloved grandchildren, Samuel T. Mckelvey, Benjamin L. Mckelvey, Virginia L. Justice, and W. Graham Justice are already missing their granddaddy who took every opportunity to spoil them, love them, and teach them about Jesus. He was the faithful son of A. C. and Elsie Tweedy and is survived by two brothers, J. Wayne Tweedy and M. L. Tweedy. He served in the U.S. Army reserves for six years as a Drill Sergeant during the Vietnam era. He was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He loved fishing and guns, and also enjoyed football, history, the military, old westerns, John Wayne, music, his friends, and his home town of Rustburg, VA. He was a loyal employee of the family business until its closing in 1997. Mitch then started his own business where he worked right up until the week before he passed away. In his final days, he took comfort in having his family at his side and he reminded his loved ones to trust God and look out for one another. Though daddy's favorite recliner now sits empty, we know that he is in heaven with Jesus and is happily reunited with his Dad, Grover Childress, and Bobby Galloway. He reminded everyone in the hours before he passed not to be sad because: "…rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 The public viewing will be Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Duiguid Funeral Service Waterlick Chapel, 21914 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24504. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church, 10660 Richmond Hwy., Lynchburg, VA 24504. Immediately following the funeral service, the graveside service will be held at New Chapel Baptist Church, 1977 New Chapel Rd., Rustburg, VA 24588.
